ŠUND (its pronounced shund) is a festival dedicated to art, an international contest for all students and future artists. The Festival invites people from all over Europe to present their work together with their peers, always with the theme of what art can offer to society today.

At a time when Europe is in crisis, this is one event that goes against the tide and creates a space of openness and disclosure to European art, an exchange of ideas between competitors and the public. It is a festival created for students – those already trained and who are still studying.

Working in an environment with a festival full of joy, the team met a lot of colleagues in their same situation, which enabled them to grow more, with new ideas and contacts. Today, students and organizations support and distribute ŠUND as a quality product, which always encourages the team to go beyond their limits. Achieving such success, the team was not resigned; they wanted to grow and have new experiences.

Hence, Portugal seemed to be a natural step in the growth of the festival, and all thanks to this friendship that was constructed along these pass editions. However, Belgrade will always be the centre of information and organization of the event, it is part of the soul of the Festival. The year 2013 celebrates the fourth consecutive year of the Festival, and also the beginning of a new stage. This new phase begins with this transition to Lisbon, and with all that that entails.

This is not the best festival in Europe, they think, but at the end of these years that the festival lasted, they learned some things and they now know that they have a good product that can give a different future for discussion and artistic exchanges between different countries within the same continent.

“Hopefully we shine as much as the last editions, and so far, it seems that we are on track”, comments the Festival Manager.

For ten days, the idea of the festival is constantly transforming the exhibition space, an exchange of exhibitions that can occur every two days, or just twice in the same event. The thought is to always have different exposures to happen, never stagnate with one artist. Thus, “we can always increase the number of works exhibited, and in that way increasing the number of participants may enter the festival”.

In recent editions, the number of artists has grown over the years as well as the number of competitors, and is very important to make a greater dissemination of a number of quality artists and various art forms that want to join the festival. ŠUND is always in motion. Here, all forms of art can “work” at the same time. For example, we may be a space with paintings and sculpture, someone else on stage to play the piano, or perhaps a display of models in a makeshift passarelle, all happening at the same time.

Through this way, “we can unite all the arts in the same space and through an unprecedented manner, at least by us”.

ŠUND is now promoting itself and is asking for donations through crowdfunding, to help and bring the participants to Lisbon – accommodation and food – as well as a little help for the promotional material. You can help just with 1€, it’s really simple.
